| Question:
Does God ever tell a Pastor who is having a problem
with a Church member, who is in sin, that God is going to kill
them for their sin...ie... going against the Pastor of a Local
IFB Church. Are there any New Testament examples of this?

Response:
I do not believe that God reveals to Pastors, or to anyone else for that
matter, that He is going to kill someone for any reason. God reveals
Himself through the Word of God. It is our sufficiency for life and
Godliness (II Peter 1:3), and is the Source of all wisdom and knowledge
(Psalm 119:97-100,130). We know from I Cor 13:10 that when the Bible was
completed, all additional revelation ceased. If anyone tells us that
"God has told me ______", then they are really no different than the
Charismatics, who regularly claim to get new revelation.
At the same time, we do get direction from the Scriptures. I believe
that God DOES, through His Word, show us how we are to act. The Bible
does say that some at Corinth had died because of their improper actions
and attitudes at the Lord's Table. However, this is not the same thing
as revealing that someone who has wronged us is going to die. Also, not
everyone who had violated the Lord's Table had died, because if they
were all dead, Paul would not have had to send them rebuke and
instruction. Remember, Oral Roberts said that God revealed to him that
HE was going to die if folks didn't cough up enough money.
Fundamentalists laughed at that, and rightly so. So what's the
difference?
The Apostles did make some predictions of death, as with Ananias and
Sapphira. However, they did hold the office of Apostle, and God had not
yet closed the door of new revelation. Both of those things have been
done away with. Even Paul's mentioning of Alexander the coppersmith in I
Timothy 4:14-15 does not state that God would kill him. He only states
that God will deal with him. In fact, if Paul believed that God was
going to kill Alexander, why did he warn Timothy to stay away from him?
Hope this helps. May the Lord bless you.
