| Question:
Isn't the Bible complete? What Bible should we be reading? What about
the Old Testament?
|
|
Response:
Yes, the Bible is complete. Rev 22:18-19 pronounces a curse on those
who would add
to or take away from the Bible. I Cor 13:10 tells us that when "that
which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away".
This reference is speaking of the Bible, for the only two "things" which
are perfect are Christ (John 14:6) and His Word (John 17:17), and the
neuter pronoun "that" would not be used to refer to Christ. Thus, once
the Scriptures were completed around 95 A.D., there was no new
revelation from God.
As can be seen from other questions on our web site, I believe that the
only acceptable
"Bible" in the English language is the King James Version. Without
going into details
which have been dealt with in other questions, the King James Version is
the only literal, formal equivalency translation from the correct Greek
and Hebrew manuscripts that is available in English today. Of course,
both the Old and New Testaments are part of the Bible. They are equally
inspired and preserved, and equally relevant for today.
Remember, when Paul commends Timothy for his knowledge of the "holy
Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation" (II Tim
3:15), he was speaking of the
Old Testament. Galatians 3:24 states that the law was "a schoolmaster,
to bring us to
Christ". I Corinthians 10:11 tells us that the stories of the Old
Testament are examples to us today, so that we can better understand Who
God is, and what He expects of us.
