We do know a little bit about what we were put on earth for. First of all, we are to glorify God, for I Cor 10:31 states, "Whether therefore ye eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God". Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived aside from Christ, made this statement: "Fear God, and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecc 12:13). Finally, Jesus instructed His followers to "Go ye into all the world and teach (evangelize) all nations, baptizing them...teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you" (Matt 28:19-20). You may not know today every detail of God's plan for your life, but you do know the basics: He wants men to be saved (II Peter 3:9), and then serve Him with their lives. He wants them to have a relationship with Him through prayer and the Scriptures. He wants them to act in a way that glorifies Him. He wants them to share the Gospel with the unsaved. He wants them to be obedient in areas such as baptism (Acts 2:41), church membership (Acts 2:41), and in all other facets of life. I believe if you will be obedient to the things that you know you should be doing today, that will put you in a position to be led of God into new areas tomorrow. Failure to accomplish what I know I should be doing today will leave me where I am, and keep me from achieving all that God wanted for me.
