December 1995

We have just finished the Thanksgiving holiday. Sometimes it is easy to lose sight of the meaning of these special days because of all the traditions that go along with them. By the time a family has run to the store several times, cleaned the house for company, cooked a large turkey dinner with all the trimmings, eaten, watched foot-ball, washed the dishes, and visited for a few moments with family and friends, the day is s gone and except for the blessing at the meal, very little "Thanksgiving" has occurred.

We have so much to be thankful for. As Christians, we first of all must praise God for His love shown by giving His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. We should praise Him for being our Heavenly Father, and thank Him for caring about us in our daily lives. We should thank Him for all the good things that we have. For every good gift is from above and comes down from our Father (James 1).

I have much to be thankful for in my personal life. God has graciously given me a wonderful wife who loves me and ministers to our entire family. I have three healthy children who are a great blessing to us, and the promise of a reunion in Glory with the baby that we lost a year ago. God has blessed me with a job, which allows me to have a home, vehicles, food on the table, and numerous material blessings. He has given me Christian parents who not only love me, but have tried over the years to instill Christian values and principles in my life. He has allowed me to have good Christian friends with whom I can fellowship. He has allowed me to serve Him in a full-time capacity, and given me a good church to serve in. Truly, the individual blessings of the Lord are so great that I could never number them. The question is: How much time did I spend thanking God for them?

You know, God has been good to you, too. Even though you May be discouraged. or may be in the midst of a difficult situation. I challenge you to take some time today and consider the goodness of God in Your life and family, and then take the time to praise and thank your heavenly Father.

Your Pastor,
. Mark J. Montgomery
