Febuary 1991
previous -------------- next
As we begin the month of February, our hearts usually turn to thoughts of love.
Yet for many, the "love" of February has been somewhat lessened by the war in the Persian Gulf. Some would question God's thinking, in allowing this to happen. Others might in fact curse Him! Skeptics will question: "How can a God of love allow this to happen?", and some believers will find themselves thinking along the same lines. Let me assure you; The God of the Bible whom we serve has not changed! He is still the omniscient, omnipotent, just, and loving God that He has always been. He knew that this war was going to come about way back in eternity past. He knows the solution to it, and has the power to bring it to pass.
Why has He allowed it? I do not know, and I do not need to know, because He knows. Isaiah 55:8-9 teach us that God's wisdom and thinking are far above ours, for we are but sinful mortals. Isaiah 46:9-10 teach us that God knows what will happen in the weeks and years ahead and works His will accordingly. Perhaps (and I wish to emphasis "perhaps"), this has occurred to bring the Middle East into position for the ultimate fulfillments of prophecy during the tribulation period. Perhaps God is using this to bring about spiritual awakening. Certainly many American Christians have reestablished their prayer lives in the past few weeks. Others who have found convenient excuses to avoid the church services can now be seen regularly in the House of God. Perhaps it is for the salvation of the lost. Fundamental military chaplains are reporting numerous conversions. There are also conversions being reported among the Saudi's themselves, for as one man wrote, "There are more Christians in Saudi Arabia now, then at any time in the past 1000 years." Whatever God's reason, I know that it is based upon His wisdom, and His love.
What should we do? We need to be people of prayer. Pray daily for our servicemen, that God will protect them. Pray for our President, and the other decision makers in this conflict. Pray for families who have loved ones in the Persian Gulf. Pray for the salvation of the lost, and for revival among the saved. Pray for the people of Iraq: remember, what they really need is Jesus! Above all, pray that God's will be done. He will see us through.
