March 1994
previous -------------- next
I remember as a boy being taught in
school that the month of March "comes in
like a lion and goes out like a lamb",
although sometimes it may "come in like
a lamb and go out like a lion". As I sit
here writing this article, school has been closed because of the severe weather. Yet four days ago I went outside and took a walk without any jacket on. I guess that the most predictable characteristic about the weather is its unpredictability.
I'm so glad today that my Saviour is not unpredictable. Hebrews tells us that Jesus Christ is the same "yesterday, today, and forever." James tells us that our Heavenly Father has no "variableness, neither shadow of turning". In Malachi, Jehovah thunders "I am the Lord, I change not!" What assurance this gives to the child of God! While family and friends may be fickle, and situations vary from day to day, God is always consistent. That which was sin yesterday is still sin today. That which is commended yesterday brings commendation today. The God who promised to care for Israel in the Old Testament, and the Christians in the New Testament will surely care for believers in this day in which we live. He who never slumbers nor sleeps is still guarding, directing, and providing for His people. This gives us the confidence to face tomorrow and follow our Lord wherever His Word takes us.
As we serve God this month, may we have confidence in our great and loving Heavenly Father.
Your Pastor,
Mark J. Montgomery
