"Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature,"
with these words, our Lord commissioned His church to take the message of salvation to the entire world. This, in a sense, was the birth of world-wide missions. Missions was dear to Jesus. It was on His mind immediately before His ascension, and was the heart-beat of His ministry while here on earth. It is for this reason that Court St. Baptist Church holds a Missions Conference
every year.
Our church has a responsibility to carry out Christ's command. There are really only two ways to fulfill this. One is to send members of our church to the mission field. It is my prayer that God will call some of our young people, and our adults as well, to a life of service as a missionary. There are tremendous needs in the world. Millions die every year without ever hearing the plan of salvation. I believe that God is still looking for people who will say with Isaiah, "Here am I, send me!" I pray that some of those people will come from our congregation.
The second means by which we can carry out God's plan is to help others get to the field. We do this both through our financial giving and our fervent praying. During our conference this year, we will have three different missionary families with us. Mr. Terry was formerly a youth pastor and is heading to the country of Germany. Larry Pieri is from Wisconsin, and is going to France. Scott Childs spent a term in New Guinea, and had to return because of malaria. He is planning to go -to Australia instead. As these men come, and present the burden that God has given to them, let's pray that God will transfer that burden to us. Let's give financially, both to help these families get to the field and to support those who are already there. Let's pray that God will use them, and us, to reach souls across this world. And let's-each do our part to obey Christ's commission to "preach the Gospel to every creature."
