It has been said that "the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." Although that quotation cannot be found in the Scriptures, I believe that it is a Bible-based principle. The word of God contains several examples of men who were shaped spiritually by their mothers. Hannah begged God for a son, promised him to the Lord, and then fulfilled her promise by giving him to the Lord and His service for the duration of his life. Solomon gives credit for his writings in Proverbs 31 to his mother. Perhaps the best illustration of the effect of a godly mother on her child is found in the lives of Timothy, his mother Eunice, and his grandmother Lois. II Timothy 1:5 tells us that they were ladies of "unfeigned faith", that is, a faith that was complete and unquestioned. II Timothy 3:15 tells us that at an early age they taught the Scriptures to Timothy and that he knew them. The end result of their home life was that Timothy grew up to be a choice servant of God.

In the day and age in which we live, the family is taking a beating. Economic problems, social problems, and spiritual problems have joined forces to keep parents from fulfilling their Biblical responsibilities to "train up a child in the way he should go." Praise the Lord for mothers who are able to overcome the world's opposition and provide a home where Christ is King, and children are taught, both by word and example, to love and serve Him. May each mother strive to provide that type of situation for their children. God will bless.

Let me add one thing. If you've got a mother yet living, take some time to call her, and let her know you love her. She gave a life to us: can we not give a few moments to her? She probably wasn't perfect, but she was God's choice for you. Let's take the time to thank God for mom, and let her know how important she is to us. .
